5 Beginner Yoga Poses to Start Your Morning

You don't need an hour, a studio, or years of practice to feel the benefit of yoga in the morning. Five minutes and these five poses are enough to loosen a stiff body, slow down a racing mind, and start the day from somewhere calmer than you woke up in.

1. Child's Pose (Balasana)

Kneel with your big toes touching, knees apart, and fold forward with your arms stretched out ahead of you. Rest your forehead on the mat and breathe. It's a gentle way to wake up the spine before asking it to do anything else.

2. Cat-Cow (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana)

On hands and knees, alternate between arching your back up (cat) and dipping it down while lifting your chest (cow), moving slowly with your breath. This is one of the simplest ways to release overnight stiffness in the back and neck.

3. Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)

From hands and knees, tuck your toes and lift your hips up and back, forming an inverted V. Keep a soft bend in the knees if your hamstrings are tight. It stretches the whole back body and gets blood moving before you've even had coffee.

4. Low Lunge (Anjaneyasana)

Step one foot forward into a lunge, back knee resting on the mat, and reach your arms overhead. Hold for a few breaths on each side. This opens the hips, which tend to stay tight after a night of sitting still in bed.

5. Seated Forward Fold (Paschimottanasana)

Sit with legs extended, and fold gently forward from the hips, letting your hands rest wherever they reach — shins, ankles, or the floor beside your feet. No need to force it. This is less about touching your toes and more about a few quiet breaths before the day picks up speed.

None of these poses need to be perfect, and none of them need more than a few minutes each. That's really the idea behind everything we make at NAFEYA too — practice doesn't have to be big to be real, it just has to be yours.
